| HEP-40 DNP currently commercializes two products that are produced using its enzymatic technology. HEP-40 is a cholesterol management product with a molecular weight of 40,000 Daltons. When DNP acquired HEP-40 from Magistral Biotech, it had promising clinical evidence but lacked a randomized, placebo-controlled, double blind study. Following the acquisition, DNP ran a 200-patient double blind, placebo-controlled study on HEP-40. | OligoFlex DNP also commercializes OligoFlex in Canada, a chitosan derived product with a very low molecular weight (less than 1500 Daltons). Pre-clinical evidence has been excellent, showing that this natural product is effective in reducing the pain associated with joint swelling. OligoFlex has demonstrated a powerful anti-inflammatory effect in animal models and has not exhibited any significant side effects in humans. A double blind placebo-controlled study will be initiated in Q1 2008 to confirm the product's efficacy and safety in patients with osteoarthritis. DNP has signed several distribution deals for both human and veterinary applications. In February the company announced a distribution partnership with WILD Flavors, Inc. to provide food and beverage applications for OligoFlex. | XP-828L DNP also sells XP-828L under license from Advitech. XP-828L is the only natural product in an oral formulation that is available for psoriasis patients. Three clinical studies have confirmed its efficacy and safety, and a recent post marketing study showed XP-828L's synergistic effect when combined with topical treatments. XP-828L is being distributed in the US by Thorne Research in the practitioner channel under the PharmaDermTM trademark and is available for distribution in other US channels and international markets. DNP's pipeline includes a product for weight loss that has generated compelling pre-clinical data and will be tested in a double blind, placebo-controlled study in 2008. DNP also has two other in-house products in pre-clinical development: one is a cream for psoriasis that will complement XP-828L. The other is a product for inflammatory bowel disease, which will be developed in association with a technology that DNP in-licensed from Advitech (technology involves growth factors extracted from whey protein). |
