Strategy
The natural health market in the US alone is valued at over $23 billion. The problem today is that many products make false claims, have little or no clinical evidence and are manufactured under poor quality standards. DNP's strategy to differentiate itself is to run robust clinical trials and produce its products in GMP grade manufacturing facilities. In order to justify these investments, DNP requires natural products that have the prospect of intellectual property protection.
DNP's natural health division has been built on intellectual property. DNP owns or has the rights to 3 patents, 11 patents pending and four new patent applications that will be filed in the coming months. The patents cover composition of matter, manufacturing processes and method of use for natural products treating high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis and gastro-intestinal health.
At the core of several of DNP's product -including cholesterol reduction, joint health and weight loss, is a proprietary manufacturing technology developed over a ten year period at the University of Sherbrooke, a recognized world leading institution in the field of chitosan research. The technology allows DNP to cut food grade chitosan down into very short, homogeneous chains using a proprietary enzyme and hydrolysis process. The researchers at Sherbrooke had discovered that at different molecular weights, chitosan had very different properties and different physiological effects in the body.
